TOP NEWS: Trump Claims Diplomatic Role in Cambodia-Thailand Border Conflict, Calls for Ceasefire
Washington D.C., July 26, 2025 - U.S. President Donald Trump asserted on his social media platform, "Truth Social," that he is personally engaging in efforts to de-escalate the ongoing conflict between Cambodia and Thailand. He claims to have communicated with leaders from both countries to urge a ceasefire and peaceful resolution.
Trump stated he had spoken with the Prime Minister of Cambodia and intended to contact the Acting Prime Minister of Thailand to press for an end to the border clashes. Trump further indicated that ongoing trade negotiations with both countries were contingent on ceasing hostilities. "We happen to be, by coincidence, currently dealing on Trade with both Countries, but do not want to make any Deal, with either Country, if they are fighting – And I have told them so!" he posted.
Subsequent posts claimed progress, with Trump stating, "I have just spoken to the Acting Prime Minister of Thailand, and it was a very good conversation. Thailand, like Cambodia, wants to have an immediate Ceasefire, and PEACE. I am now going to relay that message back to the Prime Minister of Cambodia. After speaking to both Parties, Ceasefire, Peace, and Prosperity seems to be a natural. We will soon see!"
A Reuters report corroborated Trump's claims of planned intervention, stating, "U.S. President Donald Trump said on Saturday he was calling the leaders of Cambodia and Thailand to press for a ceasefire as fighting along the border continued into a third day."
Despite Trump's assertions, there has been no official confirmation from the U.S. government or either the Cambodian or Thai governments regarding his claimed involvement or any specific agreements made.
